THIS IS NOT A DRILL REPEAT THIS IS NOT A DRILL: This just happened about 30 minutes ago (and is still happening as I write this) and @hopnstein and I are (quietly) freaking out! This is the first time they've done this. They've been interacting off and on, but usually it's been "tolerating each other" rather than "friendly with each other", or else Millie chasing Jake and Jake running away to hide. This is the first time they've laid right next to each other, actually touching, and *stayed there*. Oh wait they both just laid their heads down to sleep IS THIS A DREAM OMG OMG OMG. #Jake #MillieMoon

Scenes from two weeks of coping. I’ve been scarce around here for mental health reasons. I checked out of social media for the most part and the news, other than very briefly dipping my toes in every couple of days. Trying to protect my peace as much as I could. Because I was not – and am not – ok. Very, very not ok. Surprise, surprise, I know. None of us are. Well half of us aren’t, anyway. So I disengaged for a while. I switched from OPB (NPR), which I usually listen to for most of the day, to the classical station. Didn’t do my usual daily reading of current events and news. Didn’t look at my phone more than a couple of times a day, if that. And I’ve just been trusting my instincts since then as I move through all of this devasting feeling to whatever comes next. Self-care in various forms. Escaping into the comfort of home and my sweet little family, reading, movies, music, nature, Legos, long drives. Trying to find restoration in pampering, quiet, meditation, gratitude practice, sleep. Looking for some sense of order and control by cleaning, organizing, purging. And a lot of planning and preparation. A lot of lists. Which until just a few days ago, lived solely in my head on a continuous loop because I couldn’t organize my thoughts enough to write them down. That’s backwards for me -- I normally use lists to *help* organize my thoughts. But in this case, I couldn’t break out of my own brain for the longest time. Backwards or not, though, my brain just kept churning out lists and plans because that’s how it operates, especially in a crisis. Always working the problem until resolution or exhaustion. Great for math problems and logistics challenges and Rubik’s cubes, absolute shit for your mental health when sinister forces are about to take charge of everything. In any case, I’m dipping my toe back in a bit more. I miss you all, and I’m worried about you and us, and I want to stay connected to you, my little Wishmoon community. We can and can’t control and prepare for what’s ahead, but community in all its forms makes us stronger. That’s not nothing.

To take care of ourselves for the week ahead, we spent the day putting the house in order. Our house is our sanctuary, and this is definitely a week we need it to be that. We opened the windows to get it aired out (especially after a month and a half
To take care of ourselves for the week ahead, we spent the day putting the house in order. Our house is our sanctuary, and this is definitely a week we need it to be that. We opened the windows to get it aired out (especially after a month and a half of having a cat box is the studio for Jake), washed all the blankets we'd been using to protect the futon in the studio and reclaimed that room now that he's out in the whole house, tidied and cleaned, swept and vacuumed, turned the mattress and put on fresh linens. The house has been disordered and disorganized for awhile because of busy schedules and anxious minds, and it's felt that way, too. Today's work definitely restored some of the calm and peace of home. I know we're going to need it. #thisistheheartthaticallhome #sanctuary
