Bright In Full Bloom
Bright In Full Bloom
A field of colorful, cheery little flowers as a metaphor for living life to its fullest inspired this piece. I used an intuitive process to create several layers to convey color, depth, and visual interest. Each layer involved applying freeform color and mark-making with brushes, a palette knife, or my fingers, then “pushing back” the layer with a gesso layer to allow parts of the layer to show through subsequent layers while creating a new base for another layer. This process also allows a slight evolution of the color palette, starting from darker, “muddier” tones to the eventual bright final palette, representing the evolution we undergo as we seek to live our lives to their fullest.
This work is part of my “Repurposed” series, in which I have utilized used canvases and artist panels discarded by another artist as my starting surface to create new original works. Giving new life to discarded items is a core theme of much of my artwork, reflecting my pursuit of living sustainably to be as good of a steward of the earth as I can.
