A Safe Place Somewhere In The Woods
A Safe Place Somewhere In The Woods
The lyrics of a favorite song about escaping into nature from the hustle of daily life inspired this small acrylic abstract. It is painted exclusively with a palette knife rather than brushes using an intuitive process to create several layers of color and texture. I often escape into the forested hills and mountains of my beloved Pacific Northwest when I need to find peace and mindfulness, and the image of the first light of morning brightening a gray sky and mist lingering among the dark green trees is where I return in my mind when I can’t physically go there.
This work is part of my “Repurposed” series, in which I have utilized used canvases and artist panels discarded by another artist as my starting surface to create new original works. Giving new life to discarded items is a core theme of much of my artwork, reflecting my pursuit of living sustainably to be as good of a steward of the earth as I can.
