Maeinschein
Maeinschein
Maeinschein is a German word that means the green-gold sunlight that falls through the young leaves of trees & woods in May (or late spring/early summer). Literally ‘May-light’ or ‘May-shine’.
I'm treated to this sight regularly from my front porch when the evening sun lights up the small urban forest across the street, an inspiration of glowing color and depth and contrast and beauty so breathtaking it causes an ache.
I never tire of it. Even after years, I still felt deeply compelled to share this ephemeral experience somehow. Not because no one had ever experienced it, but because I knew others would recognize this experience, too. To convey, “Can you believe this amazing world, this amazing life?”
The drive to convey an idea, an experience, a story, a feeling, an understanding, to connect through shared wonder...isn’t this the very heart of creation?
