Garden Full Of Blossoms
Garden Full Of Blossoms
“You’re a garden full of blossoms waiting for the sun to whisper: bloom.”
Flowers as a metaphor for realized potential, coming fully into ourselves.
The flowers are made from the paper-coated wire ties for plastic bags from the grocery store, beauty made from the disposably mundane. After stripping the ties of their paper and coating and sculpting them by hand to create rose-like flowers, I oxidized them in a vinegar/peroxide/salt solution. While flowers represent the peak stage of growth, the rusted wire they are made of represents the fleeting nature of life, a reminder to make the most of this “wild and precious life”, as Mary Oliver once said. Embroidery thread and hemp twine create the vines, representing the vital interconnectedness of all parts of ourselves to create the whole.
This work is part of my “Repurposed” series, in which I have utilized used canvases and artist panels discarded by another artist as my starting surface to create new original works. Giving new life to discarded items is a core theme of much of my artwork, reflecting my pursuit of living sustainably to be as good of a steward of the earth as I can.
