Tender Hearts Are Strong AF
Tender Hearts Are Strong AF
Inspired by the words “a soft heart in a cruel world is courage, not weakness" by Katherine Henson. Tenderness is so often mistaken as vulnerability when what it really is is a superpower. The ability to stay open and soft in spite of the harshness of the world, to choose softness even though you know it comes with hurt…if things are ever to get better, the world is going to need more of the courage to be tender, not less.
This piece incorporates acrylic paint, collage, tea-stained papers, hand stitching, repurposed materials (strips of fabric from an old shirt, scrap wires, and florist picks), wire sculpture, and assemblage.
This work is part of my “Repurposed” series, in which I have utilized used canvases and artist panels discarded by another artist as my starting surface to create new original works. Giving new life to discarded items is a core theme of much of my artwork, reflecting my pursuit of living sustainably to be as good of a steward of the earth as I can.
