Path from Earth To Sky
Path from Earth To Sky
Trees are a recurring motif in my work, and I think of them as sentient in an ancient way, keepers of deep wisdom we have let ourselves forget. But when they’re bare of leaves, their role as our connection from ground to air is impossible to ignore.
I create my “twisted trees” with brown kraft paper, allowing the tree to find its shape as I work. I like the idea that what was once a tree before it became paper has returned to the shape it had in its previous life.
This work is part of my “Repurposed” series, in which I have utilized used canvases and artist panels discarded by another artist as my starting surface to create new original works. Giving new life to discarded items is a core theme of much of my artwork, reflecting my pursuit of living sustainably to be as good of a steward of the earth as I can.
