I’m fascinated by the suggestive nature of abstract landscapes, the way in which colors and textures work together to create a sense of place. I’m especially interested in the way that mixed media brings an additional depth while also making the landscape more abstract, inviting the viewer to make the connection from the elements used to the elements they recognize: the slope of earth, the movement of water, the shift of cloud, the ever-present backdrop of sky.

This piece is one of a set of four I created at the same time with the same media. Along with watercolor, conte pencil, acrylic, and chalk pastel, it incorporates scraps of fabric and paper. It was as an experiment in staying as abstract as possible while evoking a pastoral vista and still keeping each piece distinct from the other.

4.5" x 6", abstract mixed media collage on watercolor paper. Artwork is signed, float mounted, matted, and framed by artist in an 8”x10” white recycled wood frame, enclosed in glass, and is ready for hanging. Framed artwork measures 11.25” x 9.25” x 1.5”. Art label included.
