Your Dreams Are Outside Your Comfort Zone
Your Dreams Are Outside Your Comfort Zone
In this piece, I wanted to portray the sometimes lonely work of aspiration. The ladder is made from the paper-coated wire ties for plastic bags from the grocery store, stripped of their paper and coating, formed by hand into shape, then oxidized in a vinegar/peroxide/salt solution. The ladder is hand-stitched to the definition for “aspiration” taken from a vintage dictionary, symbolizing the relationship between a dream and the work it entails.
This work is part of my “Repurposed” series, in which I have utilized used canvases and artist panels discarded by another artist as my starting surface to create new original works. Giving new life to discarded items is a core theme of much of my artwork, reflecting my pursuit of living sustainably to be as good of a steward of the earth as I can.
